She'd expected lights. Dirty dancing. Drunk guys stumbling around everywhere.
But it was about time she faced - Oxford wasn't the same as her hometown. Not everyone was an idiot who lived only to have the next beer can in their hand or girl on their lap. No one sucked up to their boss, and that was one of the many reasons she'd flown out in the first place. The change of scenery was nice as well - and she felt like a pixie doll. Touching the soft, silky curls of dark brown that hung close to her shoulders, Isabelle sighed and fixed the straps of the dress she wore, studying herself in the mirror. She looked porceilin, all white skin and a pretty smile, with her dark hair such a contrast. Just as she had when she'd stood next to her dad in New York, smiling at crowds and paparazzi, the perfect daughter to her father's perfect businessman. She frowned at the though, grabbing a curl and twirling it around her finger. When she released it, it bounced and brushed against her ear, but the mirror didn't see the movement - the dark haired girl had already spun around and yanked off her dress, pulling another outfit from her closet.
It wasn't as pretty, or such a big reminder of her past life, but it molded to her curves and bared her smooth-skinned shoulders. Smiling, she fixed the fabric so one side drooped lower then the other. In a better mood then before, Isabelle set off towards the party. When she arrived, it was obvious her earlier thoughts hadn't hit the mark. Of course, there were couples making out in corners, lights flashing and displaying the dancing bodies. She considered finding a dance partner, but being the new girl in town discouraged her from doing just that, and she took a seat in one of the darker corners, hoping to stay out of anyone's eye. Maybe she'd dance later.

He tugged at the sleeves of his sports coat. The suit was probably a little much for the party, but by the end of the night his tie would be lose around his neck, and most likely this coat would be laying in the corner along with many others that were disposed of because it would be too hot to wear it. He considered for a moment just leaving it behind, but then decided it completed the first initial look. Not that he really cared if he looked like the spoiled rich kid his family would like him to act like, he would just as soon show up in jeans and a t-shirt. But there were impressions to be made at this party. It was the first big one of the year and with it brought lots of new people to the area, mainly transfer students from other universities. And making an impression was something he did care about. Wooing a girl while looking like he didn’t give a care in the world just wouldn’t do.
He did nothing with his hair, unlike some guys who put gel in it and then spiked it up or slicked it back, or whatever they did with it. Instead his looked like he ran a comb through it a couple times and then let it fall into his eyes. Satisfied with the way he looked, he shoved his wallet into his pocket along with his keys and made his way out of his flat he had rented earlier in the year. It wasn’t far from campus, so it wouldn’t be a long walk to where the party was being held. He nodded at people as he walked, stopping now and again to have a short chat with a neighbor he knew. Finally he arrived outside the party. He walked in through the door without a second thought and made his way straight over to the bar, ordering himself a fifth of whiskey. Then, with drink in hand, he headed over towards the corner of the room. He loved parties, but before he could get into it, he needed to observe who all was here, and what conversations he wanted to interject himself into. He would also scout of the perfect girl to dance with, a simple process of elimination would determine who was here stag and who had a date.
Most of the dark spaces had people making out in them. He steered clear of the couples. He wasn’t one to get involved in threesomes, he was rather selfish and would prefer to have the girl all to himself rather than share one. Eventually he stumbled upon a corner that had only one other person. He thought about walking away and leaving the girl that stood there to herself, but she was rather cute and he hadn’t never seen her before. And seeing as she was standing this far off to the side by herself, there was a pretty high chance that she wasn’t here with a date. Might as well introduce himself.
“Mind if I join you?” he asked, leaning up against the wall. He nodded at her politely, offered her a smile, then turned his eyes out towards the crowd. There were people here he knew, some his friends, some friends of his family, others just classmates. He scanned the movement of bodies, then returned his gaze to the girl closest to him. He stretched out his hand in greeting. “Nathaniel Richards, but I go by Nate.”
